< Unification Thought, Theory of Value, and

the Concepts of the Purpose of Internal Nature and the Purpose of External Form >

1. Quotations from Exposition of the Divine Principle and Unification Thought

a. Quotation from Exposition of the Divine Principle

And the purpose of Internal Nature is for the sake of the whole,
while the purpose of External Form is for the sake of the individual self ~

< Exposition of the Divine Principle, p. 45, top line 8 ~ p. 45, middle line 9 >

b. Quotation from Unification Thought

This means that Internal Nature ( the mind of life) also has a dual purpose—
purpose for the whole and purpose for the individual; and
External Form ( the physical mind) also has a dual purpose—
purpose for the whole and purpose for the individual.

< Unification Thought, p. 296, bottom line 3 ~ p. 297, bottom line 7 >

2. A principled understanding of the above quotations

In Exposition of the Divine Principle, we read:

“The purpose of Internal Nature is for the sake of the whole, and
the purpose of External Form is for the sake of the individual self

According to the Principle of Creation,

that which is for the whole is of Internal Nature, and

that which is for the individual self is of External Form.

The concept is clearly defined and explained in this way.

However,

in Unification Thought we read:

“Internal Nature ( the mind of life) also has a dual purpose—

purpose for the whole and purpose for the individual; and

External Form ( the physical mind) also has a dual purpose—

purpose for the whole and purpose for the individual.”

With this additional explanation,

it comes to sound as though the conceptual definition given by the Principle of Creation

is being denied.

The original author of Unification Thought, Dr. Sang Hun Lee,

according to the testimony of the Messiah, is said in the heavenly kingdom

to hold the foremost value and position among all blessed families.

Furthermore,

during his earthly life,

in the process of writing Unification Thought,

he took the words of the Returning Messiah as the standard, and

from a philosophical and ideological viewpoint developed an expanded explanation—

this is the work called Unification Thought.

It was this work, Unification Thought, that he reported to the Returning Messiah.

Therefore, any explanation that seems to depart from the concepts of Exposition of the Divine Principle,

the autograph work of the Returning Messiah,

must be brought into agreement and  systematically arranged

on the basis of the conceptual standard  found in Exposition of the Divine Principle.

3. Conclusion

According to the Principle of Creation,

that which is for the whole is of Internal Nature, and
that which is for the individual self is of External Form;

and this concept is

clearly defined and explained.
