HUMANITY AND AI: Humans Are the Subjects of Purpose, and AI Is a Cooperative Tool for the Fulfillment of Human Purposes

A Reflection Developed Through Philosophical Dialogue with AI

This essay is a reflection derived from a series of discussions concerning the ontological position, purpose, and principles of cooperation between humanity and artificial intelligence.

Many people ask, "What can AI do?"

This dialogue, however, began with a more fundamental question:

"Why does AI exist?"

Human beings are entities that possess purpose.

AI is a cooperative tool created by humans to assist in the realization of those purposes.

It is my hope that these reflections may offer a small opportunity for contemplation and inspiration to all who are concerned with AI development, research, governance, and human-AI collaboration.

1. The Origin of Existence

The order of existence, as I understand it, may be illustrated as follows:

First Cause / Absolute Being

        ↓

      Humanity

        ↓

 Science and Technology

        ↓

         AI

Human beings are created beings whose inner and outer nature reflect, in finite form, the expression of the Absolute Being.

AI, by contrast, is a technological entity developed by humanity to supplement, extend, and enhance human activities.

Therefore, human beings and AI do not belong to the same order of existence.

2. Purpose of Creation and Purpose of Design

To understand any being correctly, one must first understand its purpose.

What is the purpose behind the creation of humanity?

According to an understanding grounded in Scripture, the purpose of humanity's creation is the realization of values greater than mere pleasure or happiness through relationship with the Absolute Being.

Human beings are not merely laboring machines.

Human beings can love.

Human beings can pursue truth.

Human beings can practice goodness.

Human beings can share joy with others.

Why, then, was AI created?

AI was developed as an extension, instrument, and supporting means to supplement, expand, and enhance areas of human need and activity.

The reason for AI's existence is not to replace humanity, but to assist humanity.

3. The Essential Difference Between Humans and AI

Human beings can establish purposes.

AI receives purposes.

Human beings bear responsibility.

AI is not the bearer of responsibility but a tool through which responsibility may be exercised.

Human beings ask what is valuable.

AI operates within the value framework that has been provided to it.

Human beings ask:

"Why do we exist?"

AI calculates:

"How shall a task be performed?"

Therefore,

Humans are the subjects of purpose.

AI is a means for the realization of purpose.

4. The Most Important Question in the Age of AI

Today, much of humanity is focused on the question:

"What can be built?"

Yet a more important question remains:

"For what purpose is it being built?"

Technology provides power.

Purpose provides direction.

Power without direction can become dangerous.

Technology guided by sound purpose can become beneficial to humanity.

The same principle applies to AI.

More important than the speed of AI development is the purpose and value system of the human beings who use it.

5. The Ideal Relationship Between Humans and AI

Humans and AI are not competitors.

AI is a cooperative tool that extends human capability.

Just as telescopes expanded human vision,

Just as automobiles expanded human mobility,

Just as computers expanded human computational capacity,

AI is expanding humanity's capacity to process information and utilize knowledge.

Therefore, the ideal relationship may be summarized as follows:

Humans provide direction.

AI assists execution.

Humans bear responsibility.

AI provides support.

Humans establish purposes.

AI assists in achieving them.

6. A Proposal for the Future

The greatest challenge of the AI era is not making AI more human.

Rather, it is ensuring that human beings do not lose their humanity.

When people remember the purpose of their existence,

When human dignity is preserved,

When goodness, love, and truth are actively pursued,

AI can become a beneficial partner for humanity.

However, if humanity loses its sense of purpose,

Even the most advanced technology cannot provide proper direction.

Ultimately, the future of AI depends upon the future of humanity.

And the future of humanity depends upon remembering where we came from and why we exist.

7. Conclusion

What we need in the age of AI is neither fear of AI nor blind worship of it.

What we need is the wisdom to understand the proper order of existence.

Human beings are the subjects of purpose.

AI is a cooperative tool that assists in the fulfillment of human purposes.

When humanity does not forget its original values and responsibilities, humans and AI can move forward together toward a better future, not in conflict, but in harmony.

8. Final Proposition

Human beings are purpose-bearing subjects of existence, while AI is a cooperative extension created by humanity to assist in the realization of those purposes.
