Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Entry into the Kremlin
Moscow Victory Homecoming Rally Address
(Reporter: Bo Hi Pak)
Rev. Sun Myung Moon returned to Korea in triumph after achieving an unprecedented victory and opening a new chapter in world history—exactly fourteen years after he had first prophesied that a grand rally would one day be held in Moscow.
Even the mighty Napoleon and Hitler, with all their military power, failed to enter Moscow.
Yet Rev. Moon entered the Kremlin.
A Historic Return
Date: May 18, 1990
Place: Seoul Olympic Main Stadium
Honorable citizens,
Thank you for filling this historic stadium to its full capacity. I have just returned from Moscow, having accompanied Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon on their visit to the Soviet Union.
During a mere seven days, I personally witnessed Rev. and Mrs. Moon shake the entire Soviet Union and ignite an unprecedented “Korea boom” throughout the country. It is my great honor to stand before you today and offer this report.
In 1976, Rev. Moon held the “God Bless America Rally” in Washington, D.C., celebrating the United States Bicentennial. Before an audience of 300,000, he proclaimed “Godism.” Immediately afterward, he declared that the next major rally would be held in Moscow.
At the time, everyone was stunned. The Soviet Union was aggressively expanding its influence, and Rev. Moon—known worldwide as the foremost anti-communist leader—lived under constant threat. The Soviets had officially labeled him “Communism’s Enemy Number One.” How could anyone imagine holding a rally in Moscow?
But Rev. Moon understood the providential timetable. He prophesied that communism would not survive beyond 73 years. And indeed, beginning with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, communism collapsed exactly 73 years after its birth.
True Love and Godism
Thus, fourteen years after his prophecy, Rev. and Mrs. Moon entered Moscow as honored guests of the Soviet government, received at the highest state guesthouse, and led the Moscow Rally to an unprecedented victory.
Napoleon could not enter Moscow. Hitler could not enter Moscow.
But Rev. Moon entered Moscow without shedding a drop of blood, armed only with true love.
Three major international events were held simultaneously in Moscow:
• The 11th World Media Conference
• The 3rd Summit Council for World Peace
• The 9th Conference of the Association for the Unity of Latin America
More than 500 prominent journalists from 60 nations and over 40 former presidents and prime ministers gathered at Rev. Moon’s invitation.
Over 1,000 Soviet journalists and diplomats attended the opening ceremony. Never in Soviet history had so many former heads of state gathered in Moscow, nor had Soviet and free-world journalists ever convened together on such a scale.
The opening ceremony on April 10 was historic. Yet the most historic moment was Rev. Moon’s keynote address. Many expected a political or diplomatic speech.
Instead, Rev. Moon proclaimed God and Godism in the very heart of the atheistic communist world.
Communism had collapsed because it denied God, he declared. The only path for the communist world to survive was to return to God-centered values. Soviet listeners were shocked—not with anger, but with awe. They were moved by his courage and humbled by the undeniable truth of his words.
To Soviet intellectuals, Rev. Moon—once considered their enemy—now appeared as a visionary who had foreseen the fall of communism for forty years.
Private Meeting with Gorbachev
On April 11 at 5 p.m., Rev. and Mrs. Moon, accompanied by 39 former presidents and prime ministers, entered the Kremlin at the personal invitation of President Mikhail Gorbachev.
President Gorbachev greeted Rev. Moon with deep respect and expressed gratitude for bringing such a major international conference to Moscow.
Rev. Moon earnestly appealed to Gorbachev to take responsibility for peace in Northeast Asia and to ensure that Kim Il Sung would not ignite a dangerous conflict. During their 30-minute private meeting, they discussed all major issues affecting Korea’s future:
• Korea–Soviet diplomatic normalization
• North–South unification
• Economic cooperation
• Religious freedom
• Global peace and mutual cooperation
At the end of their meeting, Gorbachev said:
“I like Rev. Moon!”
Mrs. Moon’s elegant hanbok deeply impressed the Soviet President, who repeatedly said, “Beautiful.” Rev. and Mrs. Moon left a profound and unforgettable image of the Korean people in his heart.
Proclamation of Godism
On April 12, the Little Angels of Korea performed in Moscow. The Soviet First Lady, Raisa Gorbacheva, attended—an unprecedented gesture for a country with no diplomatic ties to Korea.
At the closing ceremony, Rev. Moon declared:
A Korean resident of the Soviet Union said, “No one has ever spoken such words in the Soviet Union. I feel immense pride that a Korean has done this.”
A prominent American commentator wrote:
Dr. Richard Pipes of Harvard University said:
The One Who Liberated the Communist World
Why was Rev. Moon able to achieve such miracles?
Because his anti-communism is not about destroying communists—it is about liberating them.
This is “Victory over Communism”—Godism—neither left nor right, but Head-wing Thought.
Communism is driven by hatred and struggle.
Rev. Moon’s ideology is driven by true love, even toward one’s enemies.
Soviet journalists who visited Korea and the United States came to understand Rev. Moon’s true character and global achievements. One said:
They also realized that only Rev. Moon’s altruistic, true-love philosophy could save the Soviet Union.
Future historians will record that Rev. Sun Myung Moon, even before Gorbachev, was the central figure who liberated the communist world.
The Coming Day of Korean Unification
Rev. Moon played a decisive role in the political shifts that enabled the collapse of communism. His influence on the elections of 1980, 1984, and 1988 in the United States shaped the global environment that led to the fall of the communist bloc.
Thus, Rev. Moon is the central figure who brought about the fall of communism.
The next task is national unification.
And the one who liberated the communist world surely has the power to bring about Korean unification.
For sixteen years, Rev. Moon has been laying the foundation in the United States, Japan, the Soviet Union, and China—something no government could accomplish.
The day of Korean unification is approaching.
Our northern brethren long for that day as if each day were a thousand years.
Heaven’s Protection and the Mission of the True Parents
The Unification Church could not have survived such persecution without Heaven’s protection. Rev. Moon himself survived six imprisonments across four nations, including brutal torture in North Korea, where he was once left for dead in the snow—only to revive miraculously.
In Unification faith, Rev. and Mrs. Moon are revered as the True Parents—not only of the Unification Church, but of all humankind.
Physical parents give birth to our bodies, but they cannot give birth to our eternal life. Because humanity inherited original sin from the fallen ancestors, Adam and Eve, we have lived as spiritual orphans.
The True Parents have now come to Korea.
Thus Korea becomes the homeland of the True Parents, the parental nation of humanity, and the center of the 21st century.
A New Religious Reformation
The Unification movement is not a denominational movement. It is a new religious reformation—a movement for the unification of religions—raised by God for the first time in two thousand years.
Two thousand years after the Fall, God raised Abraham and established Judaism.
Two thousand years later, God sent Jesus Christ to become the True Parent of humankind.
Because he was rejected, the Second Coming was promised.
Now, two thousand years later, the Unification Church has emerged in Korea to complete the mission of the Second Coming and save the world as the religion of the True Parents.
The Kingdom for the Poor in Spirit
We are no longer orphans. The True Parents who grant eternal life are now on earth—indeed, in Korea. They have just returned victorious from Moscow.
Therefore, the Unification movement is the final torch of religious unification established by God around the year 2000. It is the history of the Second Coming and the religion of the True Parents.
Today, you have unexpectedly encountered a figure like John the Baptist. But this John the Baptist proclaims:
“The True Parents have come—listen to their words.”
Open your heart.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they shall see the Kingdom of Heaven.”
If you empty your heart today, you will see the Kingdom of Heaven.
You will gain eternal life.
You will discover true hope.
Listen to the words of Rev. Sun Myung Moon—your savior, your True Parent, and the True Parent of all humankind. Having returned from his great victory in the Soviet Union, he has an earnest message he wishes to share with you.
This concludes my report.
